Keys as we know them, are becoming a thing of the past. They are being replaced by plastic cards with magnetic strips or chips and push buttons. However, there is one set of keys that will never become a thing of the past because they are timeless, eternal, or dare I say, FOREVER: The keys to the Kingdom of God.
The key to gaining eternal life and heaven is salvation. Salvation alone, through Christ alone, unlocks the door to heaven. It is a gift from God and there is nothing we can do to earn it, we simply embrace it.
The key to our experience in heaven is what we do with the new life that Jesus unlocked for us. Paul said it this way in his letter to the Ephesians 2: 8-10:
8 For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—9 not from works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.
Think of it this way. Jesus is the keeper of the key to salvation; with it He opens eternal life for us. When we walk through that door, he hands us the key to rewards and the type of forever life we will experience.
