In the “Hook, Line and Sinker” series, inspired by Nine Common Lies Christians Believe by Shane Pruitt, we addressed the following lies that get us “hooked and cooked.”
- God won’t give me more than I can handle.
- God just wants me to be happy.
- In the end, follow your heart.
- We’re in the age of grace, so I can sin more so that grace can abound more.
I want us to understand a truth that can help us understand and combat these lies even more effectively.
Proverbs 14 and 16 tells us there is a way that seems right to a man, but it leads to death. Judges 21 also says that the people of Israel did what was right in their own eyes, and that led to disaster.
Both the Bible and history are clear in the fact that when people follow their heart, do what they want, or what is “right for them” the 3 d’s follow: Disaster, Destruction, and death.
Understand this: “The Spirit of God will not contradict the Word of God.” So, if you think you are feeling led to do something, check with God’s revealed truth because again the Spirit of God will not lead you where the Word of God did not teach you.
